Hi, I'm Barb
Taansii. My name is Barb Parchman and I am a proud Métis woman. For over two decades I have been researching the history of Métis in southwest Saskatchewan. It’s been a fascinating journey to uncover so many rich stories that I sadly don’t recall learning about in school.
When I was five, we visited my Métis great grandparents in Harlem, Montana. They were both over ninety years old and they spoke to me in a language I didn’t understand. I realize now it was likely Cree or Michif. This vivid memory remains etched in my mind.
I may not have understood their words but in hindsight and with profound respect, I sense that they are guiding me to share their story and that of the Métis people who lived here, from our own Métis voices. Once mighty buffalo hunters and fur traders, my great grandparents’ life journeys embody the resiliency and resolve of the Métis as they learned to adapt time and again to a rapidly changing landscape. I feel compelled to honour their memory by preserving and sharing this vital part of our Indigenous heritage.
My mission is to celebrate and share the richness of Métis history and culture through my company, Bison & Sage. Our offerings include Through a Métis Lens tour experience, private cultural experience, and custom experiences.
My approach is thoughtful and personal—creating space for people to listen, learn, and reflect in a way that feels respectful and meaningful.
