Through a Métis Lens

OVERVIEW
This is not a typical tour.
It is an invitation to step into a lived Métis experience, one rooted in personal story, connection to the land, and traditions carried forward through generations.
Hosted at the Goodwin House, this two-hour experience is guided by Barb, a 4th generation Métis storyteller and cultural educator. Through story, time on the land, hands-on learning, and shared food, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of Métis culture in a way that is grounded, respectful, and real.
What You’ll Experience
Your time together unfolds in a natural flow, beginning and ending at the Goodwin House.
Welcome & Story
You’ll be personally welcomed into the space and introduced to Barb’s family history and connection to southwest Saskatchewan. This sets the foundation for everything that follows—grounded in lived experience, not performance.
Métis History & Red River Cart
You will head outside to view the Red River Cart metal sculpture/replica. Barb will share its history with you there before leading you on the Medicine plant walk.
Medicine Walk
Continuing from the Red River Cart, you will explore the land on a guided walk, where Barb will introduce you to local plants and their traditional uses. This portion is interactive and sensory—inviting you to observe, reflect, and connect more deeply to place.
Beadwork Experience
Back at the Goodwin House, you’ll be guided through a hands-on beadwork activity inspired by traditional Métis floral designs. No experience is needed. This is a relaxed, welcoming space where learning happens through doing and sharing.
Food, Tea & Reflection
The experience closes with traditional foods, including bannock, pemmican, and tea. As you gather, there is space to reflect, ask questions, and share what you’re taking away from the experience.
